ROOT CANALS
How Do I Know if I Need a Root Canal?
If your teeth or gums become sensitive to hot and cold substances upon removal, if your teeth hurt while chewing or when pressure is applied to the tooth, or if your gums are swollen, you may need a root canal. The aforementioned symptoms are common symptoms of a damaged nerve or pulp, which can be removed through root canal.
If your tooth infection is mild to moderate, a root canal will often be more appropriate than an extraction. Extractions should only be used when the tooth has become damaged beyond repair due to infection. Extraction is the complete removal of the tooth, while a root canal only removes the damaged nerve and tissue, so performing a root canal on a severely damaged tooth will only cause more pain and will cost more compared to simply removing the infected.
